Scardy cat dog

We have two wonderful mutts. One is a Lab. mix, Sandy, who is probably mixed with Chow because she hates water and has blue spots on her tongue. She's 45 lbs of attitude. Our other dog, Shadow, is 118 lbs of love. He's a Rot. mix, probably with St. Bernard - he has jowels and everything. Anyway, one night Sandy was just a barking at about 3:00 in the morning. We tried to get her to stop but no such luck, so we went out to the backyard with a bat and a flashlight to see what was going on. We followed Sandy to the spot in the bushes where she was barking with Shadow following behind us. She barked at the bush like crazy so we poked the bat in the bush and the bush growled? We decided that we all needed to sleep inside for the night and turned to see where Shadow was. Well he was no where to be found. We finally noticed his eyes, he was as far away from us as possible in the yard, sitting in a corner and was coming no where near any of the excitement. Our scardy cat dog. We love him.

Not a comment, but another tale. Over winter break, my son brought home, at my surprise, a constrictor snake. It was a class pet and needed a home for the 2 weeks. It had full instructions on how to give it a feeder mouse every couple of days and it liked the sun and ... oh my goodness. So we found a sunny spot by a window covered with shutters, for this 2 foot long visitor. I was not afraid or at least I wasn't gona' let my son know of my fear because it was in an aquarium with a cover and my son seemed to like it. Well during the 2nd feeding, our house guest decided that it would like to leave the acquarium. Maybe it needed a little exercise or something. As I said, we had shutters on our windows and the snake moved very quickly up into my shutters! I yelled for my son and said, "Get it out of my shutters!" He quickly said to me that he had never touched the snake before and was kinda' afraid of it. Now what?! What agency do I call, police, fire department...? I didn't want it loose in my house, so I got rubber gloves, grabbed the tail and began to pull. With a little effort, the snake began to come out of the shutters and I was able to get it back in the acquarium. No more house guests over vacations anymore.
